Introduction:
Thank you for your interest in Columbia Avenue Church of Christ. The Christians here have been working together for over 35 years preaching the good news of Jesus Christ, encouraging and promoting Christian lives in its members and serving their community in the love of Christ.
A marvelous group of Christians, six elders, three ministers, 14 deacons and six ministry leaders serve this congregation. They greatly appreciate your interest in this church family and would be happy to talk with you and answer any questions you might have.
What Will This Family Do For You?
Columbia Avenue Church of Christ is very family-oriented and we are vitally interested in you. We want to encourage your walk with God in worship, sharing together with God's people, and service to others. Our priority as your brothers and sisters in Christ is not merely for your happiness in the "here and now," we're also concerned with your eternal happiness.
We meet together regularly to praise God and to encourage each other. Our weekly Sunday morning and Wednesday evening Bible study periods involve both worship and praise to God that encourage us in the Christian life. In addition to attending assemblies, fulfillment of our Christian service is often found outside our times together. This congregation provides many opportunities for us to put our faith into action by serving other Christians, even those outside this body. Our ministries are led by deacons or ministry leaders.
Service in this church family involves a variety of outreach opportunities:
- Life Groups--Caring ministries of small groups of people reaching out to encourage and help those experiencing death, illness and other difficult times, as well as joyful occasions.
- Benevolence Ministry--Consists of programs to assist those in need who come to our door, visit our Community Care Center or suffer loss and need our assistance.
- Education Ministry--Begins in infancy and continues throughout adulthood. Special classes and sessions are held to provide a greater knowledge of God by studying His Word.
- Missions Ministry--Consists of programs and efforts to share Christ in our community, other states, even overseas.
- Outreach Ministries--To our Golden Agers, Singles & Single Again, Children and Youth are important to us. We focus on all ages through our seminars and retreats.
What Does The Church Expect Of You?
The church is the family that God has called to glorify Him. This is done by weekly worship together to express our gratitude to God for what He has done for us through Christ. Worship gives us an opportunity to praise God and to encourage each other. Also, the church is the place that calls us to serve God's people and His world. All Christians are called to be servants to the family of God and to spread the gospel and to demonstrate the love of Christ.
A commitment to purity and faithfulness in marriage and our families (Eph. 5:21-6:4) is a hallmark of God's people. Also, parents are to "bring up their children in the Lord." Columbia Avenue Church of Christ wants to be a place where we receive our children as a gift from God and work to give them back to God.
Another serious consideration is living our lives in harmony with the will of God. Christian ethics should guide our thoughts and actions. Our need to live our faith and model, love, patience and faithfulness to God while rejecting passions of the flesh are important in God's family (Ephesians 4:1-5, 20).
- We're people who worship the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
- We're people helping people.
- We're people who have been transformed.
We hope that this has helped you to better understand Columbia Avenue Church of Christ. If there is any way that we can be of service to you, please Contact Us. We will be very happy to help!
